Company gears up for revamp following remarkable recent growth & success in winning a top industry award

As we enter the final quarter of 2017, Edgar Rayner, LTi Metaltech’s new Technical Director, looks back at a dynamic year of change and business growth for the Abingdon-based business, which has just got even more exciting with the accolade of a top industry award. In recognition of its support for Tokamak Energy in its major breakthrough towards fusion energy, LTi scooped the ‘Best Research & Development Project’ category at this month’s Cotswold Life Engineering, Manufacturing & Innovation Awards 2017.

The award crowns a period of significant growth and change for the company under its new leader, who assumed the position of Technical Director in January of this year. The company has seized the opportunity to revitalize and uplift the business by upskilling and diversifying the markets that it serves.

As part of the company’s movement into other sectors, LTi formed a partnership with Tokamak Energy, engineering critical parts for the world’s first high-field spherical Tokamak ST40 reactor.

Edgar launched a brand for internal and external change, named ‘Synergie’ as part of a quality drive run across all parts of the business. Synergie is a customer relationship improvement and loyalty programme that has been designed to put the customer first with a quality initiative aimed at improving the customer experience and communication on the shop floor. Internal communications and upskilling have played an important part in the recent evolution of the business, all aimed at supporting and fostering a culture of excellence and growth.

While building on its work and relationship with Siemens in the specialist manufacture of the intricate tubes and vessels used in MRI scanners, the company has embarked on a sales and marketing strategy to extend its reputation in non-medical markets. These include waste heat recovery, maritime, aerospace, transport, renewables, sci-tech and distilleries.

Looking back at this year, Edgar says: “2017 has been a pivotal year for LTi Metaltech, as we strive to build on the solid foundations we have established over the years and develop relationships with clients who need our expertise in other market sectors. We are setting ourselves up for a great 2018.”
